Corona and foreign athletes

This time, Park Siu came to Japan to participate in DEEPJEWELS31. I’ll start here, because coming to Japan itself is a difficult situation. However, from her words, I could feel her strong will to fight, by all means.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, many people’s activities were restricted in 2020. K-1 World GP 2020 Japan – K’FESTA.3,” held on March 22, 2020, drew criticism from Saitama Prefecture and the public for holding the event in the midst of a widespread corona outbreak. Martial arts events that attract crowds are also seen as clusters of corona, and each organization is taking countermeasures while holding the event.

While holding the event itself is difficult, inviting overseas fighters is even more difficult. When overseas athletes travel to Japan, they are required to be quarantined for two weeks. During that time, the athletes are only allowed to exercise in their own rooms. Park Si-woo says that he does not do any adjustments in the gym.

In the past, Park Si Woo came to Japan on lightweight days when he fought in Japan, so he did not make any adjustments after his arrival. This is an episode that symbolizes the proximity between Japan and Korea. However, it goes without saying that it became more difficult to maintain the condition because of the quarantine period.

Even just a two-week quarantine is a blow to foreign players. Park Si Woo is a Pilates and yoga trainer in Korea, but this time he quit his job to come to Japan.

She replied with a sly smile, “Since I quit, I’m worried about my income. I am worried about my income now that I have quit my job,” she replied with a sly grin, showing her boldness and her extraordinary commitment to martial arts. Considering the period of quarantine between her arrival and return to Japan, she would have to take almost a month off from work, which would be difficult without the understanding of her workplace. I am convinced that I will have to quit. It would be nice if I could cover it with fight money, but that is not easy either.

Why did she come to Japan for the Corona disaster?

Why did Park Si Woo go to such lengths to come to Japan? When I asked her this question, she answered, “Because I really wanted to fight.

Due to the Corona disaster, there are fewer and fewer martial arts events in Korea. Compared to Japan, where the number of fights is increasing, there are fewer opportunities for fights in Korea. In Korea, women’s fights have finally started to be held recently, but the number of fights is still not very large. As the number of matches decreases in Corona, it is safe to say that Korean women players have lost the game itself.

So Park Si Woo chose Japan, where her title match against the then champion Tomo Maezawa was scheduled for May 6, 2020, but was cancelled in Corona. Winning this fight gave him a boost in the DEEP JEWELS Atomweight GP tournament scheduled to be held next year.

From Taekwondo to MMA and ・・・・

What kind of athlete is Park Si Woo?

Park Si Woo’s martial arts background goes back to middle school. She started Taekwondo in junior high school and won prizes in various competitions. She continued Taekwondo until he was in college.

After that, he took up kickboxing and finally ended up in MMA. When asked why she wanted to become a professional fighter, he said, “I naturally wanted to become a professional fighter.

Park’s goal is to become the DEEPJEWELS atomweight champion, compete in RISIN, and eventually compete in the UFC. It was reported that his sister, So Hee Ham, signed a contract with ONE, but when I asked her, “What do you think of ONE? I don’t really get it,” he said, seemingly unenthusiastic.

Park says, “I feel like the UFC is right for me. Park prefers a style of fighting where he gets up close and personal with his opponent. In an interview, she said, “I like to get up close and personal. In an interview, he said, “I like to fight in close quarters. The Japanese fighters she has fought have all been grapplers, and they have all fallen prey to Park’s blows when they get close. For them, Park will be an unpleasant opponent.

Although Park prefers to play a carnivorous game of close striking, her target fighter is Zhang Wei-Li, a Chinese fighter who is the UFC women’s strawweight champion. She is a striker like Park.

Park has been looking forward to fighting in Japan, even quitting her job. We look forward to her success in the tournament.
